45

45. the number can apply to any number of things. a record, cost, a weapon.

today was fantastic. we went to mar vista near venice high, hung out at a place that reminded me of pulp fiction, went to sonny mclean's in santa monica for the celtics, drove home through dense fog. i'm wearing my blue yo la tengo shirt. today was really funny, saw a lot of stuff i never see, stuff that made me think.

culture shock, in a big way. little mexican skaters. rims. we drove down the strip on wilshire. i struggle to fathom, hasten to comprehend

train wreck, sugar shack, juicy fruit. leaving the door open, i don't know if the landlord hates me or loves me, loud grime, spongebog, swisher.

i ate apps and corned beef (after reading omnivore's dilemma so much and reading about cows so much i felt like eating beef, which i never do). chris made the best corned beef once.

beeradvocate, firestone double barrel ale, lakers nuggets, ai, printer friendly, hollister staffing, the vice guide to bands.

we'll leave at 8:30

olde new england's curious customs and cures

hung out by the pool today. left with fifteen minutes til noon so that i didnt get sunburned. it's a wonderful 72 degrees right now, cept it might rain sat and sun, but big deal. i'm gonna go to echo park tmrw, and tmrw night is boom bip and junkie xl at viper room. i need to ensure this

i'm of course listening to live wmbr and wzbc out here, streaming online. it's comforting. i think about boston. the smells here are different. everything's different. i haven't seen anything.

when i changed the color scheme it got rid of my analytics tracker, so i have no stats in my report for the last 5 days, but it's not impt, because i know people read this blog. it's just funny.

not to be compulsive.

this room is really funny, with art student stuff, and colors, and bright colors. i imagine i'll take some photos at some point. the pool is fantastic, and i kinda wanna put some sunblock on and go back out. it's just too beautiful today, a day in december. i could use a safety pin

i wanna go watch the celtics at a sports bar at 4pm when they play the 76ers. i think about my friends. i've come to know a bunch of people. come and go. murp lives in chicago now.

this is a record of a time, of a life, of a ____ spent. strange. edge, verge, lip.

unusual, story, tell. look back and

birds of paradise in full bloom. the ice does not get chipped away in boston, the mbta is in debt, the construction is ongoing.

because i don't have to write papers for class any more i don't really care about using the passive voice and the verb to be a lot. i used to write good. well.

think of the. a place in the sun, watched that movie a lot

but still

i'm here in la, playa del rey, with andy and jackie. i'm gonna sleep on a leather couch tonight. weather tells me it's gonna be high of 72 tmrw, which i'm fine with. andy gave me a pillow, can't find the blanket, says that the sleeping bag is f'ed up.

we'll see. don't worry about it. lights out. i don't have my headphones in. tmrw i'm gonna reset andy's router and try to set up a password on it. i'll likely mess it up and have to call tech support.

tonight was fun. we watched basketball, including lakers and usc. good highlights, some of which i saw live. went to the store on the corner. ate french toast. air fresheners. the place here is open air. you go outside your door and you're outside, you're not inside.

here dawn is at 6:16 and sunrise is at 6:43. my birthday is usually on the solstice.

conjecture, speculation.

links, blogs, posts, embedded. firms, agencies, sleep, eyes, tranq, pass, miss.

real, actual, true.

everywho. vidual. personal. urself. command left in quicktime plays it backwards. cmd tab switches applications, which i tell ppl. the of the. is, still, will.

these things happen/head full of ideas

i'm on the porch. my computer is really slow. it's warm here. i sat by the pool for a while. i got omnivores dilemma by michael pollan at the airport and am 100 pgs in. slept all the way to vegas for the connecting flight, played the slot machines in the airport, got a pretzel, andy showed me around, i met his roommate, and now i gotta go out and get some food.

i'm in playa del rey. i saw the hollywood sign and the smog. andy lives really close to the beach. matt fay told me about a show tmrw night at temple bar in santa monica. it would be funny if andy and i went. there's a fitness center in the building, which is a good sign. forecast says it's gonna get cold but looks like tmrw will be warm.

three hours behind.

flying across the country

flying across the country. waking up before 6 for a 7 48 flight. in los angeles until the 12th. it's a long time. i might buy magazines. omg another emergency alert system monthly test on tv, must be because nstar was messing with our power.

i don't think i want a new tv because then i will get a dvr box and i will start recording again and watching more tv than i do now. it's an interesting decision.

patriots game was incredible tonight. baltimore totally blew it. they couldnt have helped the patriots any more in terms of penalties and mistakes. trying to see if i can see them talk to rodney on sportscenter. was jabar in for other snaps before his td?

i can't find my flipflops, which is tough, but they're lame and black and i should get colorful new ones in LA. this is gonna be such a good trip, i can feel it. there's a pool at andys place, temps in the 70s tmrw. barring interference, i will be getting a tan at 2pm tmrw by andys pool.

gotta take my contacts out, gotta fly with your glasses on. i've got my boarding pass printed out and in my ridiculous carryon. i really hope nothing breaks or explodes in my luggage tmrw. i'm glad i lifted weights today.

oooooh more session tracks from cadence weapon, let's hear em

i'm headed to the inland empire. playa del rey. i also get to see faith in echo park and see boom bip thursday night. does it get any better?

the answer is no, it doesn't get any better. i'm going to california for a full week to see friends -- it's wondrous. anticipate joy.

before i/and oh yeah weezy

a lot of stuff. it's hard. it's not fair. it makes you wanna...but don't. but when. how? i'm not sure. a turn for the...

i have stuff to do today because i am getting on a plane tmrw morning and going away for a while. i know that by the end of the trip i will be ready to go home, so i have to prepare to relax.

it would be good if i kicked things off by going to the gym right now. i found that out and wow and...doesn't even...this/here

there are planes taking off today and tmrw, will they? come on.

but wait, wait for it, fight it out. or, what's the word, not persevere, crap i gotta go look in radical evolution.

being a futurist is great. science fiction becoming non. science stranger than fiction.

i'm not, don't. please. saw gone baby gone last night, it was good, gruesome and too long but good. i need to stop eating movie popcorn.

fill the gap. hands

the snowze alarm

also, it snowed a bunch tonight. take a walk in the park and make a snowball. aim at the lamp. its street cleaning in my neighborhood the next couple of days so i had to park on broadway. i can see my car from my kitchen. this isnt terribly interesting.

a lot of snow, planes delayed? monday? tuesday? monday and tuesday?

i don't care/it doesn't matter/it's not that important

hmm. when i see you by fantasia is an awesome song, i have emily from motivashunal musik to thank for this. also, theres a new song by usher called dat girl right there which is funny too. hmm.

i'll see you when you get back. i'm gone tuesday to wednesday. im gone tue wedthufrisatsunmontuewed. kobe bryant is all sorts of nasty, stating the obvious. please do what you can to see the oop he threw down tonight against the magic. i havent listened to this old cadence weapon album. i heard a new track of his on the mary anne hobbs show -- link to her show and the session (i think you have to download both parts)

mary anne hobbs radio 1's experimental show

you lose some, you lose some

twice in one day. not a good time. i hung out with jeff today and he's ridiculous. many things are ridiculous, jeff included. jeff owes me one, between one and 40. about eight....y-eight. Aggregated Diamond Nanorods, not my material

no, trabajamos. i can't believe these things. i've lived here my whole life. almost. i was in new hampshire and vermont a lot. i wanna go out tonight but i don't wanna go out. jeff always needs a ride, cant we get him a segway? cops on segways are the funniest thing ever. oh wait thats anyone on a segway

but i should get out, otherwise it's gonna be bad. but i don't wanna go to a bar in davis with jake and chris. but i guess i have to? wtf. ok i'll think things over.

there's always tomorrow. there's never today. there's yesterday. checks and balances. bounced checks and remaining balances. balance bay area mixtape king?

the present enters into it. k tunes. more like ryeTunes

the saturday afternoon postage stamp

the saturday afternoon postage stamp. someone left their heels here. a hokie is a turkey. we want boston college to win this came. umass football at 3 15, bc bball at 6, ceatles at noon tmrw, are you serious?

party was awesome last night until it got broken up. i was so happy to have so many friends there, friends from all places and eras.

pat has a projector tv, it's large. roy is in his blog seat. it goes in there. he's gonna go for a half mil.

this lalptop has a busted tilde key, evil design, and lakai limited footwear on it. i still have paint on my arm. the blue paint on my face looked silly. i did get a photo though.

dj from zbc was at the party, cool. phantom? chargers this morning, oh wait and last night, right. right. ridiculous. mc, noc.

windy today, gave people rides home last night. i need to hear stories. i'm glad. a lot of fun. hopefully everything is ok.

k here we go, it's back on. i thought schill pitched well, got in a couple jams, you know i thought early on his fastball split, gettin his curveball over the plate for strikes. etched

the writer as blogger

no banana for breakfast today, bad idea. gonna do that thing. i feel the need to write more. to write my story. but also just to write about tons of stuff. actually let microsoft word capitalize stuff for me. i'll write the rest of this post in word to give you an idea: no i cant do it. i feel stifled in word.

i finished colossus of new york, now i'm gonna start sixth extinction. being able to read fast is great. ok theres a party tonight, everyones invited, what's gonna happen?, i dont know, it can't be anything but spectacular though. a fete

a soul shakedown party. goodness gracious. i had plans but didn't execute. gotta pick up where i left off. put some of those silly paintings up. stopping is difficult.

i'm really bad at chess. becca heller once asked me to play in wellesley a long time ago. i obliged. i sometimes think of my awful chess playing as an analogy for other things. thinking ahead. seeing ahead. seeing several moves ahead. planning for an opponent. hmm not really. but foresight is a funny thing.

where did this come from, why did this happen, who decided, did it really?, was it necessary?, couldn't it have been...?

angst, joy, angst, angst, rapture, salvation, stasis.

i can't say. i won't. keep it.

seeing things

on other blogs my blog is linked to as:

Hyde the Elder Drops Science in yo Ear

DAVE_HYDE: most underrated blog in the league. also happens to be my brother's.

the likes

the likes. my living room contains: magazines, electronics, blankets, bookmarks, newspapers, cacti, plants, and a radiator that doesn't work. none of the radiators in our place are functional any more. it's kinda silly. i suggested we decorate them somehow. we should paint the radiators.

oh yeah i wanna get a christmas tree. maybe i'll get one on the 13th or 14th, that would be cool, just go over to the place in union square. i think i should do it. just gonna have to move this one thing out of the way.

i started reading the colossus of new york: a city in thirteen parts, by colson whitehead, and it's gold.

tonight was laughs with kane and matt and clynton, music ball games. i did not watch hairspray or any other musical

jeff roy and mark are all doing great jobs with their blogs, i'm impressed. mark is really outdoing himself. roy is writing for class too. jeff commits legends.

tons of tunes. i like eating at crazy doughs in harvard sq. i talked to shane for a while, he's at law school and working full time which is crazy.

at the end of into the wild supertramp scribbles "happiness only real when shared". this is heavy

the marine in my doorway

the marine in my doorway. ok, the entryway. i came back from lunch and there was a marine in the entryway to my house, which is a building with 6 apts. but, not like the marines, like a bum who's a vet. he was drunk and sitting cross-legged next to his bags and booze. i talked to him for a bit.

he said he was headed to the shelter on albany street. i decided not to intervene. i went upstairs, and hours later a cop car came by and a van from a street outreach program rolled up and led him, stumbling, inside. i thought about all the people that help people, whose jobs it is to help people. you can apply this description to just about anyone, but it shines through. benevolent workers.

the cambridge cops have to deal with central sq drunks. today i gave the spare change guy a dollar in front of au bon pain in harvard. i saw the guy that used to sell the spare change magazine in downtown crossing on broadway in cambridge last week. i've heard a story of seeing a harvard sq bum in nyc.

i wouldn't mind having a job which required me to take the redline somewhere. i would read the metro and the globe or the herald every day.

spank rock, stanton warriors, junkie xl, boom bip, football basketball and music tonight. lighting festivities

making you go places

i'm gonna make you go places

look at these drawings

Lucile Maiseau: Quand je serai grande, je serai graphiste...

i don't take french, i don't go to french class

that's really funny/wait, what?

Lee Perry says "Dub it Iyah. Dub it Iyah. Yeah...Do it Iyah. Do it Iyah. Yes!" lee perry is also nucking futs

wait, what? what? no. no. yeah? nah.

if you can tolerate listening to scratchy recordings from the 60s then R&B Ska Beat 45s Volume 1 is for you.

blue doritos, cool ranch, ugh. i've eaten thousands of pounds of food with names that are not names from nature. like pop tarts.

i went to the gym today, there they have the plates that have handles on them, which is worth the price of membership, wait no it isnt.

reading more, which is good news. i realized today that for a job to work for me i have to always feel like i am learning. i didn't realize how important it was. also means i might get super picky about work, we'll see

shoot i didnt call shane today, i also need to write a blurb to send to rowers, ok todo list for today. this is what i have so far (real boring), it's for the 05 newsletter im starting:
"I’m currently living near Central Square in Cambridge. This is the 4th Cambridge apt. I’ve lived in. I have two great roommates who are finishing up college, and I’m grateful to have my best living situation yet.

Since college I’ve worked at National Public Radio, Sermo.com, and TechTarget, focusing on website content management and production. Right now, I’m taking some time off after getting really stressed out at Reed Business Information in Waltham. I had been working there since May in web operations and online advertising. I’m going to take a trip to L.A. next week, then start yet another job search."

i get to see boom bip live in a week. celebration and holy f*ck are playing middle east tonight, celtics are gonna play and prob lose. bc bball and umass bball both won big games. matt gave me his shirt which was too big for him, it's pretty goofy. fish have scales and tails, they swim on scales and breathe tales. they gulp pond water.

staying culturally literate

right. i kinda not really have emails to write and sorta not exactly have phone calls to make and totally don't have any texts to send. ive gotta go to the gym today, motivatemotivatemotivate.

these blogs are getting funny, marks and roys and jeffs that is. ahahahah self reflection

short attention span theater, chester, damn, people, lots

matt hamilton used to use a lot of semicolons, in his emails i think. like, a lot of them. he's also the funniest person on earth, so we can learn a lot from him. i think he actually gets back, or is back, i'm gonna write him

the cool kids played at dartmouth last night, i think. i think i'm gonna get a hard drive to finally offload my drive so that im not just deleting old music to make way for the new

i can't wait to see boom bip at the viper room. a certain someone does not like the viper room, i hope i don't get in trouble

my computer is a little souped up, but i would be crushed if i lost this drive, which is why i gotta back it up like today. i'm having a hard time doing anything but read right now though.

apart from richard brautigan and colson whitehead, i'm gonna look at the sixth extinction: journeys among the lost and left behind, by terry glavin. blogging reminds me of a typewriter

i'm on a typewriter, this was scanned

we lost power, but then we got it back

the power went out, but then it came back on. i had to go downstairs in the hallway to turn off the trouble alarm in whatever electrical box is on the wall on the first floor. i had to do this twice, once when the power turned off, and then again when it came back on. this was gratifying, because the alarm was loud and annoying, and i was proactive.

do people really listen to grime? nowhere near as many people as listen to hiphop. also, here is the link to see my roommate clynton in an episode of my super sweet sixteen. he's at the sneaker store looking unimpressed.
It's The Shoes
he's standing 2:12 seconds in, next to the guy reading the magazine

now i wanna stay up. i need to get on a regular schedule. this is hard for me. again, bugs have it made, they don't need to sleep.

yawn, i gotta bunch of books to read, which is good. celtics lost, brutal game. i gotta rally and get up early. i'm alternately really good and really bad at motivating myself.

rob's my space says "i've lost the will to...whatever." if you go to his site and look at the forum you'll see that his site gets hundreds of views.

clynton described to me a new york party that i'd like to be at. the party this friday night will be...hopefully not disappointing.

oh yeah, so matt and i went to the all night falafel place, falafel palace, and talked to these two mit guys that worked in robotics and they told us about the mit robot which was one of 5 cars to finish the recent darpa race, i might post a link, it was the mit entry named talos, robotically controlled cars

rena told me about three fears, global warming, artifical intelligence surpassing human intelligence, and questioning our reality.

tryin to climb ladders

listening to quasimoto. watched boom bip interview. two very sad sports stories today.

my apt is getting another heater installed, in the living room this time, now all will be warm. i was just asked "what level do you like the heat set at?" i took my headphones off and said "low". my back is hurting from my bed, so it needs to be replaced. i wonder if i there's a long new yorker article i actually want to read.

i never had a bad back during college and 8 years of rowing, and now i'm hurting. i gotta go to the gym bad. ben got a tongue ring, seriously.

i need to start listening to WZBC more. but i only have one set of ears, which makes it difficult. alternating between the live and the stored. the on air and the archived. the streaming and the filed. the streamed and the stored. the radio and the mp3.

in trying to think positive, don't think of bad things. if you think of bad things, thank that they're not that bad. this is impossible.

i've been told to see a chiropractor and an osteopath, for different reasons. should i? i should. i want instant surgery that does not require going to a hospital or recovery.

it's Tuesday, warm out, shorts. prefuse 73 at paradise tonight, i should go, but will probably just watch celtics. who knoooowwwwwss. i gotta settle on a dvd to watch tmrw. the article about the nyc manhole covers made in india was crazy. i can't make my mind up about the new bob dylan movie. unclear, as they say.

it gets better/glitch click blip

the glitch in the click in the blip. i'm on albumhunt. worth a look. albumhunt.com the album is the other side los angeles by madlib. this is good.

it's 60 degrees outside now, that's so warm, means today is gonna be real nice.
